Stripped of her usual theatrical makeup and full-on costume, Gaga dons a pair of sexy hip-skimming shorts and a tee-shirt in her latest music offering and gives an exhilarating performance packed full of frustration and despair.

The singer is battling with the “perfect illusion” of a love gone wrong and stomps around in the desert, thrashing and gyrating her body as her boots kick up dust and she belts out “it wasn’t larrrrrv”.

It’s “love” dear.

After a solo drive through the desert in an open-top jeep, Gaga is transported to a warehouse packed full of ravers going wild and her cohorts, Mark Ronson, Kevin Parker and BloodPop.

Perfect Illusion is the first single off the star’s next album Joanne which comes out on October 21, three years after her album Artpop.

If this single is anything to go by, the record will shine, especially with contributions from Josh Homme, Father John Misty and Nashville songwriter Hillary Lindsey as well as the aforementioned trio.

The album was named after her father’s late sister Joanne, who died aged 19 from Lupus. Speaking about her inspiration for the record, Gaga told Zane Lowe: “It’s everything about Joanne. It’s all the toughness of the pain of losing her that made us all strong and made us who we are. She is the woman of my past who is becoming and helping me bring more of my honest woman self into the future.”
