Cape Town – In case you’ve been wondering why you haven’t seen Dynamo in recent months, it’s because the magician has been battling with serious health issues.
In a new video, shared on Twitter on Tuesday, the magician explains what’s been going on in his life over the last eight months.
“I've been keeping a bit more of a low profile as I got really sick and ended up in hospital last summer due to a really bad type of food poisoning - which having Crohn's disease and food poisoning very bad combination,” Dynamo, real name Steven Frayne, explains.
Crohn’s disease is “a chronic disorder that causes inflammation of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, resulting in diarrhoea. It’s also known as an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).”

Unfortunately the 35-year-old has been dealing with “ongoing side effects” from the food poisoning, one of them being arthritis which Steven says, “has affected all the joints in my body – my toes, my knees, my neck, my ankles, my hands.”
In the video it is clear to see Steven has had a considerable change in appearance, which he explains is due to all the medication he is on to help him get better.

“As you can probably see my appearance has changed quite a bit due to all the medication I’m on. I’m on quite a lot of tablets,” he explains, “And all the medication has caused me to put on a lot of extra body weight as well as a rash that’s all over my head. It’s actually all over my body but thankfully you guys don’t have to see that.”
Despite struggling with these health issues Steven assures that he is working with a great team of doctors and physios to get “back to 100%” and is working on new magic that everyone will hopefully see soon.
