Watch: Man Drives Car Into OCEAN In Attempt To Escape Police

A suspected car thief tried to get away from police by driving away as fast as he could - straight into the ocean.

The unnamed man had been followed and chased by police in Perth, Australia, for two hours before he came to a stop in sand dunes.

A police car approached the vehicle but as one officer stepped out of his car, the suspect put his foot down.

However, rather than turn around to try and escape, the driver inexplicably drove straight forward into the sea.

Footage from a helicopter shows the man exiting the car through the window as police stood on the beach deciding what to do.

After the suspect got on top of the roof of the white Toyota Land Cruiser, police were eventually forced to go in after him as the waves pushed the car back to shore.

The man was eventually arrested while police eventually used a winch to pull in the stolen vehicle.

Teasing the man on their Twitter page, Yanchep Police wrote: “Think you can escape us in your stolen 4WD at #Wilbinga? We have 4WDs too, and air support #youloose #seacruiser[sic]”
