Watch: Masked gang with shotguns blast their way into computer shop
A masked gang armed with shotguns has ransacked a computer shop and left two people injured in a planned attack.
CCTV footage shows a silver Ford Fiesta pull up outside City Computers in Smethwick, West Midlands, before a group of four men exit the vehicle.
Two can be seen smashing the windows of the shop with axes as two others carrying shotguns enter the building.
One can then be seen shooting at a closed door before kicking it open and making his way into a back office, followed by an accomplice.
The intruders are subsequently seen running out of the room and towards their getaway car.
Two men in their 40s were left wounded after the gang discharged their firearms during the attack. One victim was hit in the arm by a gunshot while another suffered a neck injury.
The incident occurred at around 12pm on January 12 last year.
Jamal Hussain, 22, from Walsall, fled the country shortly after the attack. He was arrested at Birmingham Airport upon his return to the UK in May.
Hussain has now admitted firearms offences and on Thursday was jailed for nine years and two months at Worcester Crown Court.
CCTV footage from the day before the attack showed the gang scouting out the route from their addresses in Walsall to the surrounding area of the shop.
Detectives investigating the crime identified Hussain as the driver of the Ford Fiesta following CCTV and mobile phone enquiries.
The investigation revealed that there were several calls between the gang during the morning of the attack.
Four men, also from Walsall, have already been jailed for their part in the raid.
Last August Haider Shabir, 21, was jailed for 14 years, Mohammed Uwais Latif, 24, for nine years and 10 months and Mohammed Tayyib Wajid, 26 was sentenced to 21 months in prison.
In April, Ahmed Aumair, 21, was jailed for 12 years and six months while Azeem Hussain, 26, is due to be sentenced later this year.
Detective Inspector Francis Nock from our Major Crime Unit said: “All six men involved in this planned armed attack have been convicted.
“Jamal Hussain was a key player in this operation and has received a lengthy jail sentence to reflect this.
“This could have easily been a fatal attack but miraculously, the injuries of the two victims were not serious.
“Weapons have no place on our streets and we will continue to bring those to justice who think it’s acceptable to use them to bring violence into our communities.”
