Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has dismissed Scarlett Moffatt’s ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’ victory as inexplicable and ridiculous.

The nation rallied behind the Gogglebox star this weekend when they voted her Queen of the jungle of the ITV reality TV series.

But Piers refused to be swept away with the hype and poured cold water on Scarlett’s sudden surge in popularity, questioning the ‘state of the world’ after asking why someone who had spent five minutes in the limelight had won the show.

“None of us have ever heard of” acid-tongued Piers spat, before adding: “I don’t know anything about her, this Scarlett Moffatt character.”

“She said, ‘I can’t believe I’m in here with people like Carol Vorderman and Danny Baker.’ Well, I can’t believe you were in there.”

Scarlett beat off competition from comedian Joel Dommett and Emmerdale star Adam Thomas to the crown. Speaking after her win, she said: “I feel dizzy. I can’t believe it, oh my god. Never did I ever think this would happen. Oh my god.

“I might be the only person whoever says this – but I wish I could do it all again. It’s just amazing. It’s beyond any [expectations] that I thought. I’ve never felt so happy, which is weird because I hate camping. I’m not going to miss sleeping in a hammock but I’m going to miss waking up and hearing everyone chatting. It’s just been amazing …

“It’s been a massive learning curve; I feel like I need to have more confidence in myself because I doubt myself constantly. Doing the trials and stuff, I feel like a much more confident person coming on here. I didn’t expect it to have any life effects on me, I just thought it was going to be really fun.”

Though Piers’ co-host Susanna Reid jumped to Scarlett’s defence and called her a ‘superstar’ for being on the TV in her own right, he shot back: “She’s not a superstar though is she?”

“I’m not sure what it says about the world when someone who is famous for watching TV wins a TV show.”
