Guillermo del Toro's newest movie The Shape of Water is already making waves, and now Digital Spy has an exclusive look at the new UK trailer for the very atypical love story.

Set to the 1940s refrain of the Glenn Miller classic 'I Know Why (And So Do You)', the teaser introduces us to our heroine (Sally Hawkins), her lover (Doug Jones) and the man trying to tear them apart (Michael Shannon).

What makes this different from the standard Romeo and Juliet scenario is that Hawkins plays Elisa Esposito, a mute janitor at a shady government facility in 1960s Cold War-era America, who falls in love with an 'amphibious man' being held for study by her employers.

As Shannon's creepy government spook employer tortures the fish man, Elisa plots a daring escape plan.

Octavia Spencer, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Lauren Lee Smith also feature in the movie.

Following rave reviews out of its premiere at Venice Film Festival earlier this summer, the movie currently holds an impressive 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and has already won some awards – Venice's prestigious Golden Lion and the Vanguard award at Palm Springs Film Festival.

The Shape of Water is out in the US this Friday (December 8) and will be released in the UK on February 14, for those of you who fancy an alternative to Fifty Shades Freed on Valentine's Day.
