Sven-Goran Eriksson suffered a hilarious TV interview when his video feed was interrupted by Lembit Opik who rang him seven times.

The former England manager was chatting to Kay Burley on Sky News about England’s chances at Euro 2021 where he emphatically declared the Three Lions would claim the trophy with Harry Kane their star player.

But the interview was dogged by friend and former Lib Dem MP Lembit Opik, 56, as he tried to repeatedly call the clearly distracted Sven as he tried to speak on how important it was to communicate in English to the players.

A profile picture of a smiling Mr Opik kept on appearing on the live interview screen as his phone call took over the live feed with the persistent former partner of Cheeky Girl’s Gabriela refusing to take Sven’s repeated hangups for an answer.

Burley said: “Quick thought before I ask you one more question because it really does look like Mr Opik wants to talk to you.”

But before Eriksson can open up on his biggest regret as England manager, Mr Opik’s face appears again on Sven’s screen.

Sven bravely continues: “Not taking a mental coach to err…for penalty shootouts in Germany 2006.

“Maybe we should have done much better in 2006… I can’t see a much better team than us at that time but… we lost on penalties again.”

Burley later tried to explain away the constant interruptions saying: “We are going to try and sort out the tech.”

Viewers labelled the interview “a car crash’” online.

Mr Opik had in the past said he had cursed Sven by giving him in a ringing endorsement.

Opik was a Liberal Democrat MP for 13 years who frequently hit the headlines for his high profile love life.

Mr Opik had a relationship with ITV weathergirl Sian Lloyd before he later struck up a romance with Gabriela Irimia, one half of The Cheeky Girls.

They announced their engagement after a trip to Rome but the couple separated in July 2008.
