WATCH: Tesco Van Cuts Up Learner Driver Before Swerving Down Side Street

Learner drivers don’t always inspire too much tolerance among other more experienced road users.

But the lack of patience demonstrated by a Tesco delivery driver in a new video clip is truly shocking.

Dashcam footage captured in Bexleyheath, south east London, shows the moment the restless driver cut up a learner in a “dangerous” manoeuvre as the student waited to make a left turn.

The van is initially seen looming behind the learner while they slow down to make the turn down a side street. It then dangerously overtakes and cuts up the student with a left turn before speeding off.

The unnamed learner driver managed to brake in the nick of time and beep their horn at the delivery van, but was so distressed they had to pull over to regain their composure.

Driving instructor Monika D’Agate who captured the footage on her dashcam, said it was “possibly the worst driving I’ve ever seen.”

Describing the overtake as “so dangerous” and “disgusting”, she said that students can be left “paralysed with fear” by other dangerous road users who should know better.

She added: “It’s like the survival of the fittest on the roads. Learner drivers get a lot of abuse and people tend to take advantage. I’ve had so many cases of abuse, I set up cameras to prove what I see.

“People don’t seem to respect the fact that the learner drivers are learning. We all had to learn, yet most people forget that. When people are in a rush they think they can go abuse others on the road.”

Tesco said it was disappointed in the driver, who will not be fired.

A spokesman said: “This does not meet the standards we expect from our drivers and we have now given the Tesco colleague additional training following the incident.”
