Marvel has been teasing Thor: Ragnarok since the comedy short that premiered at Comic-Con 2016, and now the first trailer has finally arrived.

The first look at Taika Waititi's MCU movie introduces us to Cate Blanchett's Hela, Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster and Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie.

The trailer shows Hela – the Norse goddess of death – confronting Chris Hemsworth's Thor, and it does not go well for him or his hammer. Alas, poor Mjolnir, we hardly knew thee.

Hela invades Asgard (apparently singlehandedly), while Thor is taken prisoner by Valkyrie and the Grandmaster in order to fight in their arena.

And while Thor might be pleased to see his "friend from work", Hulk, Mark Ruffalo's big green character apparently has different feelings.

All of this happens to the strains of Led Zeppelin's entirely appropriate 'Immigrant Song'. Valhalla, I am coming.

While Asgard is under attack, we already know that Anthony Hopkins's Odin is wondering Earth as a homeless man – presumably with no memory of his past.

Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba and Karl Urban also feature in the movie, which will be the MCU's third instalment this year behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Thor: Ragnarok will be released on October 27 in the UK and November 3 in the US.
