Watch Tupac and Jada Pinkett Smith lip-sync Will Smith's 'Parents Just Don't Understand
All eyez are on Jada Pinkett Smith.
The actress shared a sweet throwback video on Weds. featuring her late friend Tupac Shakur. The video sees Shakur and Pinkett Smith lip-syncing to "Parents Just Don't Understand" by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince — better known, of course, as Will Smith, the actress' now-husband.
In her caption, Pinkett Smith said that she and Shakur, who became friends at the Baltimore School for the Arts, did a "terrible job" lip-syncing to the song, but both performers' natural charisma and unquenchable energy are both on clear display.
In a separate post, Pinkett Smith shared a short excerpt from her upcoming book Worthy that gives poetic context to the video. "Not in a million years would I have dreamed that the Fresh Prince and I would become, um, very acquainted," the actress wrote. "Not in a million years did I imagine three lives, their fates, would be so intertwined."
Pinkett Smith also reflected on the conclusion of the two years of high school she spent with the rapper. "And… I never would have imagined that this video would become a tangible memory, of the last time Pac and I, were simply kids together. Pac and I lip syncing Parents Just Don't Understand by Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince during our Junior year in high school. Who would have thought?"
Shakur attended Baltimore School for the Arts for his sophomore and junior years of high school, and became well-known on campus for his musical talents. Pinkett Smith had previously stated that she met the rapper on her first day of school.
Shakur later reunited with Pinkett Smith when he guested in an episode of A Different World in 1993. The actress also appeared in the videos for his songs "Keep Ya Head Up" and "Temptations," and provided the rapper $100,000 for bail upon his conviction for sexual abuse.
