HELP is available for people struggling to pay for energy and water bills.

Thames Water's WaterHelp scheme is letting households which earn less than £16,480 apply to have their bill halved.

The government announced earlier this week that people who receive certain benefits or tax credits will receive an extra payment to help with living costs.

Those on some means-tested benefits will get a one-off payment of £650, pensioners who receive winter fuel allowances will get an extra £300, and people on some non-means-tested disability benefits will have an extra £150.

A Swindon Borough Council spokesman said: "You do not need to apply, if you’re eligible, you’ll be paid automatically. These payments are not taxable and will not affect the benefits or tax credits you get."
