Storm Sally was upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane as floodwaters rose in Hopedale, Louisiana – part of the New Orleans metropolitan area – on Monday, September 14, according to St Bernard Parish.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Monday morning that Sally “rapidly” strengthened into a hurricane with winds reaching 90 mph. The NHC warned of coastal flooding and “dangerous” storm surge.
