Waterloo Road has dropped a first proper look at the next series in a brand new trailer.

The revived BBC soap is due to return for its next batch of episodes later this month, and going by the new clip, plenty of drama awaits the teachers and students of the school.

As well as the risk of Waterloo Road going into special measures, we see a glimpse of Jamie Glover's character Andrew Treneman as he makes his long-awaited return.

Waterloo Road has promised that "audiences will be kept guessing whether Kim’s old flame is back with good intentions or not", while the show will introduce new boy Myles (Osian Morgan), who struggles back in mainstream education after being let go by a football academy.

The new series has also teased love in the air for a number of couples, while the show will tackle subjects such as mental health, racism, the cost-of-living crisis and being LGBTQ+.

Glover's comeback was confirmed last month, the star saying at the time: "I am so excited to be returning to Waterloo Road. The school has been such an important part of my life and it’s wonderful to be able to rekindle the old flame.

"Not to mention the joy of getting to work with the incomparable Angela Griffin once more. I hope that people will enjoy seeing Andrew and Kim together in the school again. Older? Certainly, there's the grey hair to prove it…! Wiser? Who knows?"

The new episodes will also see a number of new additions, including Osian Morgan, Hattie Dynevor, Benidorm's Paul Bazely, and Coronation Street's Jenny Platt, Olwen May and James Quinn.

Waterloo Road returns on May 16 at 8pm on BBC One, and streams on BBC iPlayer.
