Claudio Ranieri becomes the 16th permanent manager to step into the Vicarage Road dugout in just ten years when his Watford side take on Liverpool today.

The Italian, 69, hardly comes into a disastrous situation after the sacking of Xisco Munoz, with the club 15th and four points clear of the drop zone.

But the visit of Liverpool, and upcoming clashes with Arsenal and Manchester United, means there will be little time for Ranieri to settle down into his third stint in the Premier League.

For the Reds, memories of a 3-0 defeat in their last match with Watford, which followed a run of eight meetings unbeaten scoring 27 goals, must be put to one side as a victory will send Jurgen Klopp’s men top, if only temporarily.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Watford vs Liverpool is scheduled for an 12.30pm BST kick-off on Saturday, October 16, 2021.

Watford vs Liverpool team news

Liverpool will be without Brazil internationals Fabinho and Alisson after they played for their country in the early hours on Friday morning.

It means Caoimhin Kelleher is set to start in goal at Vicarage Road.

With Fabinho missing and Thiago Alcantara a doubt as he continues to recover from a calf injury, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is pushing for a start in midfield.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is available again and is likely to come back into the team at right-back. Jota is also available to lead the line.

Watford are without Francisco Sierralta (hamstring), Peter Etebo (muscle), Christian Kabasele (hamstring) and Joshua King (knee).

Watford vs Liverpool prediction

A new manager bounce, coupled with a few key absentees for the visitors, could turn this into a memorable afternoon for Watford. But Liverpool have been in hot goalscoring form of late and should rise to this challenge.

Liverpool to win 3-1.
