Wayne Rooney frustrated over refereeing decisions in QPR draw

Wayne Rooney was thankful to fourth official Sunny Singh Gill for the way he handled his complaints over key incidents in Plymouth Argyle's eventful 1-1 draw with Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

Rooney was upset by a number of the decisions made by experienced EFL referee Gavin Ward during the Championship match, including not to award the Pilgrims a penalty in the closing stages of the game. He was convinced Kornel Szucs had been fouled by QPR defender Jake Clarke-Salter, although TV replays did show both players had grabbed each other's shirts.

The Argyle head coach also thought the late dismissal of Freddie Issaka 'didn't look like a red card' but added he had not 'seen too many angles of it'.

On the penalty incident, Rooney said: "The players said the referee was going to give it and the linesman must have spoken to him and told him not to. Apparently the linesman said they were both pulling but I felt Kornel got the wrong side of the defender and he has been dragged back and spun round.

"What's frustrating is we had a meeting about four weeks ago with all the managers and the referees and this exact situation was highlighted and we were told this without a shadow of a doubt was a penalty. So I don't see why that changes now. I get different rule changes within the game but that's what frustrates you.

"I have to say I thought the fourth official was really good, speaking to me. I felt there was a lot of decisions . . . and sometimes you lose your temper a little bit with the fourth official but I thought he handled that really well.

"He agreed with a lot of the stuff I was saying, the decisions which I felt were fouls he agreed with, so that's why it's frustrating the man in the middle or the linesman can't see what myself and the fourth official are seeing."
