Wayne Rooney scores free-kick on Man Utd return as fans say 'childhood is gone'
Wayne Rooney scored a stunning-free kick on his return to action for Manchester United during a charity match against Celtic. The Plymouth Argyle manager pulled on the famous red shirt again yesterday (Saturday, September 7) but left fans around the world feeling old.
It was his first appearance at Old Trafford since 2017. The match, which supported the MU Foundation, finished with Celtic winning a penalty shootout.
As reported by the Mirror, Rooney's stellar performance left fans feeling their age. One person posted on X: "Smh where has my childhood gone."

His majestic free-kick to break the deadlock was appreciated by all, though. Sharing a clip of the strike - which left Artur Boruc rooted to the spot - one fan summed it up best by simply saying: "Wayne Rooney still has it."

The 38-year-old was substituted in the second half for former team-mate Paul Scholes. He was treated to a standing ovation from the fans inside Old Trafford.
