'#WeAreNotAfraid': Messages of solidarity emerge in London after terror attack kills four people

Londoners have stood in solidarity after yesterday’s horrific terror attack claimed the life of four people.

Four people died yesterday afternoon after a lone attacker drove a car over Westminster Bridge and ploughed into a crowd of pedestrians.

The car then crashed into railings outside the Houses of Parliament, before the attacker left the car and ran to Parliament – where a police officer was fatally stabbed.

The attacker was subsequently shot dead by police.

Now, London is united in the aftermath of the attack – with photos showing some of the messages of hope and solidarity that have subsequently emerged.

A quote of the day on a notice board at Tower Bridge station reads: ‘The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of them all. #LondonIsOpen #Westminster #WeAreNotAfraid’.

A similar message at Oval & Clapham North Tube Station used an impassioned quote from the late Fred Rogers.

‘When I was a boy and would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me “look for the helpers, you will always find people who are helping”‘.

And though this Tube sign turned out to be fake – it was created using an online tool – many also felt it summed up London’s defiance in the face of adversity.

Speaking yesterday in the immediate aftermath of the attack, London mayor Sadiq Khan said: ‘My heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones and to everyone who has been affected.’

He added: ‘I want to reassure all Londoners and all our visitors, not to be alarmed.

‘Our city remains one of the safest in the world. London is the greatest city in the world and we stand together in the face of those who seek to harm us and destroy our way of life. We always have, and we always will.
