Weather latest: Stoke-on-Trent roads under water and 1,700 with no electricity
More than 1,700 homes have been left with no electricity while key routes are under water this evening after North Staffordshire was battered by thunderstorms and heavy rain. And firefighters remain in Longton where lightning has reportedly hit a property resulting in neighbouring homes being evacuated.
It comes after thunder and lightning swept through the area with heavy rain leaving a number of key roads flooded this evening. Meanwhile National Grid engineers have been dealing with just over 1,700 homes across Keele, Fulford, Werrington, along with various parts of the Moorlands such as Longnor, Onecote, and Wetton all without power.
The conditions have also affected the water supply - and water pressure - to scores of homes all over North Staffordshire. Severn Trent Water has said postcodes including ST2, ST6, ST8, ST9, ST13 and ST18 are all affected - with engineers hoping to have it fixed by around 10pm.

The problem has been put down to pumps responsible for getting water across the area failing. The heavy rain has also impacted various roads across North Staffordshire.
They include Uttoxeter Road through Draycott in the Moors near Cresswell Old Road, Leek Road in Endon; Baddeley Green Lane in Baddeley Green, Milton Road in Sneyd Green, and Leek Road through Abbey Hulton.
Meanwhile residents in Cheadle say there are flooding problems around Boundary, Dilhorne and Forsbrook with key roads affected with some completely shut off.
