A blizzard spanning more than 600 miles is predicted to bring more snow to the UK later this month. Bitter cold conditions have been felt across much of the UK during the start of 2025.

Minus temperatures are now expected to rise this week. According to the Met Office, a 'transition' is coming later this month, from dry and 'unsettled' conditions to potentially wetter weather.

Weather maps from WXCharts suggest the coming precipitation could well be snow, showing a major blizzard system in just over a week. Maps indicate that snow will pass over the UK on January 25, with northern England and Scotland the worst affected.

The Cairngorms national park, to the west of Aberdeen, will see the most snow, Mirror reports. Maps also show up to 3cm could fall per hour over high ground.

The area around the park, including Aberdeen, Inverness and Edinburgh, will see similar totals of about 2cm per hour. Those living on the east coast of Scotland are anticipated to see lighter snow - about 0.2cm per hour.

Heavier snow is predicted to fall further south, with the weather system extending down to into England where isolated heavy snow in northern regions could build up to 17cm. The snowy system covers a huge part of the UK.

Wales is expected to see some snow in the north, around Snowdonia, as well as further south. The western portion of the snowy system extends to Plymouth - meaning 742 miles (1,192km) of land could be covered by the end of this month.

The Met Office forecast for January 19 to 28, reads: "This period is expected to see a transition, possibly lasting over several days, between the settled, dry, and often dull conditions expected over the next few days, to something more unsettled. Sunday itself is likely to be rather cloudy and cool, with outbreaks of rain in the west drifting slowly eastwards.

"The start of the following week will most likely see more settled conditions with light winds becoming re-established, with a chance of rain in both the far north and the far south, and a smaller chance that the rain could become more widespread. Later in the week, periods of much wetter and windier weather will most likely become more prevalent, from northwest to southeast, alternatively there is a very small chance of colder, drier, but perhaps wintry, easterly winds."
