A fresh weather warning has been issued for Stoke-on-Trent, as heavy rain is expected to fall on the region on Sunday (January 26). The extreme weather the UK has experienced since the turn of the new year will continue, The Met Office has revealed in its latest weather warning to the public.

The government's meteorological service has issued five yellow weather warning for the United Kingdom - with one of those covering Stoke-on-Trent.

The warning comes into force from 8am on Sunday and lasts until 6am on Monday. It states that spells of heavy rain are forecast and may lead to local flooding during Sunday and Monday.

The Met Office says the weather could cause power cuts, flooding to homes, disruption to public transport, hazardous driving conditions and a small chance of fast flowing flood water causing a danger to life.

The warning reads: "A period of heavy rain is likely to affect central and southern England and much of Wales during Sunday morning followed by some heavy, thundery showers. Quite widely, 10-20 mm will fall, with locally nearer 30-50 mm over high ground, particularly over exposed south or southeast-facing upslopes.

"It's then possible that a further spell of heavy rain may develop and affect parts of England and Wales on Sunday evening, clearing early Monday and should this be the case a few places may see as much as 80 mm of rainfall in total. Given recent heavy rain, this extra rainfall could lead to some local surface water and river flooding."
