Adam Webster is fit and ready to bounce back from the most frustrating season of his career.

The Albion centre-back has been grafting hard away from the training ground before reporting back for pre-season.

He is one of many players working harder than ever in the summer - and will have extra motivation for a big season.

Webster was limited to just 16 Premier League starts last term.

That was still enough to have him linked with a possible England call by Sky Sports analyst Jamie Carragher.

Speaking after a late-season game at Manchester City, Webster said: “It was without a doubt the most frustrating season of my career.

“It has been very stop-start from the word go.

“I missed half of pre-season, which is frustrating.

“I was probably the fittest I have ever been going into pre-season because we had longer off and I worked harder.”

Webster has again teamed up with the Intent91 gym in Worthing, with whom he worked last summer.

In The Argus today, fitness trainer George Branford highlights the quantity and quality of work players – professional and from non-league - are putting in during midsummer weeks to be ready for pre-season.

He said: “Adam should be going back peaking.

“He had ups and downs through the season with injuries.

“He is as hungry as ever to go back and hit the ground running.

“He’s fit. He’s not feeling any of the injuries he had last season so he is ready to go.”
