YOUR SUMMER STEAL: SIMONMILLER X MANGO HAS LANDED
The cult high-street collaboration – whereby the Oxford Street behemoths join forces with lesser-known indie brands – is having a moment. Case in point: Mango’s new partnership with Cali label Simonmiller, beloved by cool girls for its off-key luxury. Just in time for the final bank holiday for a few weeks, this one is a dose of sartorial vitamin D. Think squidgy slides, fishnet dresses and crochet co-ords. Run, don’t walk. shop.mango.com/gb
BRAVO TO TWO LONDON-BASED BRANDS
At ES HQ we always welcome an opportunity to applaud our hometown’s brilliant young designers. Last week gave us two chances to celebrate. First, 16Arlington’s Marco Capaldo – making waves with his elevated take on slick sexiness – scooped the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund. And then Labrum’s Foday Dumbuya – whose knockout Brixton Village show was one of the highlights of the last London Fashion Week – was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design. Massive congratulations to both.
A SURPRISE EXIT
Blink and you’ll miss it: Ludovic de Saint Sernin is exiting Ann Demeulemeester after one season it was announced this weekend. And you know what that means? It’s now or never if you want to dare to bare in one of feather tops (as seen on Hunter Schafer from his first – and last – collection for the house.)
DIOR HEADS TO MEXICO CITY
Fashion sure is racking up some airmiles right now. In the latest pitstop of the Cruise circuit, Dior decamped to Mexico City, where Maria Grazia Chiuri presented a poetic, beautifully executed collection that paid homage to one of its most famous residents: Frida Kahlo. Showing at the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, where Kahlo studied and met Diego Rivera, Grazia Chiuri tapped the skills of Mexican artisans to reimagine the house’s classic codes and pieces.
