Does the 'five year average' account for the fact that there's been a large increase in total population numbers since 2015?

That is key, because if the UK population is 1.5 million higher now than it was at the start of the five year average period, that means there's approx 750,000 more people in the UK this year than there were across that five year average, with a normal death rate in the UK of about 1% per year that means we'd expect about 7,500 more deaths this year than the five year average anyway.

That means that the five year average is not a useful comparator and that it is deaths per population which should be calculated, like they do at Lockdown Sceptics.

This was always going to happen. So many of the deaths were among people who were at the end of their lives, the virus was just the last straw and so brought forward a proportion of deaths. The timeline has merely shifted. It follows that the ONLY stats that are worth looking at are those covering a full year, perhaps even two, and compare that to the long term average. With so much bad recording of Covid deaths and no post mortems jumping at daily data is a pointless exercise.

At the end of this year, we'll find out the the total dead is similar to any other year. If this is that case (I think it will be), we'll probably not be told, so that they can control us again with COVID-20 next time!

That what people don't understand... every month 40000 people die for cancer, long sicknes, car accident, etc... But never locked the country.
And because of 47000 death in 4 month cause of coronavirus ( which is 12000 death/month ) they lock the country ? Yeah very logic...
