'They Were Racists': Confederate Monument Vandalized in Nashville, Tennessee

A Confederate memorial at Centennial Park in Nashville, Tennessee, was found vandalized on June 17, according to local media.

Kyle Cunningham posted a video of the Civil War Memorial to his Instagram story on the morning of June 17. The video shows red paint splashed on the statue of a Confederate soldier. The statue was painted with the words: “They were racists”.

The statue, erected in 1909, is of the “Confederate boy hero” Sam Davis, according to the Nashville Public Library. The words painted on the memorial cover the inscribed names of the Frank Cheatham Bivouac, a group of Confederate soldiers. Credit: Kyle Cunningham via Storyful
