A brand new salon with a unique concept has opened up in West Bridgford. No. 4, in Tudor Square, officially opened its doors on Tuesday, June 4, and the owner says they offer clients a 'couture' experience, taking inspiration from French clothing brand Balmain.

The unit was formerly occupied by Estilo, a ladies' clothing shop which shut down in 2023. No. 4 owner Charlotte Moonsamy says the salon was borne out of her frustrations as a client.

"When I’d previously go to salons, I’d never felt truly satisfied with my experience," said the 39-year-old. "I wanted to open somewhere that ticked all my boxes."

Charlotte, who lives in Keyworth but describes West Bridgford as her 'social hub,' says when the opportunity arose to purchase a salon, she knew she'd need to do something different. All services only use Balmain products and include a 10-minute head massage for every customer. She continued: "I wanted to offer something high end and I'd always had the idea for a boujee salon.

"But I wanted to offer a point of difference; in West Bridgford there are a lot of salons. And I've always really liked Balmain as a fashion brand."

Charlotte says another fundamental part of the business - and something especially important to her - is 'enhancing natural beauty.' "What we want to do is make clients feel the best version of themselves," she added.

"Your hair is your hair and at the end of the day you’ve got that for life, so we just want to make people feel really confident."

Speaking about how the last two weeks have been since launching, Charlotte said: "It has been amazing; it doesn't feel like work. We love people popping in for a little chat or to browse the products and to see what we have created.

"I have never felt happier and the feeling when clients leave with added confidence is just something else. The feedback has been amazing, and we are really busy, so I think it's testimony to the salon and the incredible stylists who work here."

On what's next for the business, Charlotte said: "I would love to open other salons but for now my focus is No.4 in West Bridgford and bringing something different to the area."

Ladies cuts at the salon start at £50 and men's start at £45. They also offer treatments and hair colouring services.
