A woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 90-year-old woman was beaten and stabbed in west London.

The victim is fighting for life in hospital after she was attacked at an address in West Drayton on Thursday evening.

Police said they were called to reports of an elderly woman assaulted at an address in Lilac Place at 8.20pm.

The victim suffered a stab wound to the neck and serious head injuries "consistent with blunt force trauma", a Met Police spokeswoman said.

She is currently in a critical but stable condition at a west London hospital.

The 52-year-old suspect is being held at a west London police station and detectives are appealing for witnesses and information.

Police have not yet established a motive for the attack.

Detective Inspector Claire Hine said: "This was a horrific attack on an elderly, defenceless woman in her own home, which has left the victim fighting for her life.

"We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anything that could assist our investigation to come forward."

Witnesses are urged to call detectives at Hillingdon CID on 0208 246 1552 or anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
