West Dunbartonshire is set to receive around £1.4m funding from the Scottish Government to support council staff while the country continues to navigate the cost of inflation.

It has been confirmed that all Scottish local authorities will receive a share of £24.5 million with West Dunbartonshire expecting a total of £1.395 million which will benefit all council workers including those delivering Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) delegated services.

An update was presented to members of West Dunbartonshire’s HSCP yesterday afternoon where it was confirmed that like the previous two financial years, the decision on what, if any, share the HSCP would receive would be decided by councillors at their own budget setting meeting.

It is anticipated that the local HSCP would receive just under £500,000 - £488,000 to be exact.

During the meeting, Julie Slaven, Chief Financial Officer, said: “As part of the settlement for 2025/26 there has been funding announced of £24.5 million for local authorities.

“This will help support some of that differential between budget assumptions and the actual cost of implementing the pay award.

“In terms of West Dunbartonshire Council their share of that £24.5 million has been confirmed as just under £1.4 million.

“The HSCP is approximately 35% of the local authority pay bill and therefore an appropriate share for us would be just under half a million pounds.

“Any decisions on pay awards will be taken at the council’s budget in March."
