West Ham’s walking football team saw off London rivals Chelsea in the club’s newly-introduced match day tournament on Sunday.

The inaugural four-team tournament saw West Ham’s Claret Walking Football team beat the Blues 3-1 on penalties prior to the goalless Premier League draw between the two clubs.

Walking Football has been run by the West Ham Foundation and funded by the Premier League since October 2016.

Three teams from West Ham were involved with Claret, Blue and Black teams featuring alongside a team from Chelsea.

The Bassett and Gold Football tournament will take place ahead of every Premier League fixture at the London Stadium, with a team representing the Hammers in action against opposition from each club at the London Marathon Community Track.

Teams are made up of six players with each match lasting eight minutes.

Joe Lyons, West Ham United Foundation Chief Executive said of the tournament: “Working with Basset & Gold has been a wonderful experience for everybody involved so far.

“It’s great to have a sponsor want to get so involved in the heart of the community, giving us a chance to reach more participants and help the community develop.

"Our Walking Football programme has a great success rate and it is fantastic to see it expand further.”
