Manuel Pellegrini has been confirmed as the new boss of West Ham… and the Hammers have shown their commitment to the Chilean by handing him a healthy salary.

Standard Sport reported on Monday that the former Manchester City boss will earn around £10million a year at the London Stadium, a salary that is significantly more than many managers in the Premier League’s top six.

The 64-year-old, who won the Premier League title with Manchester City in 2014, was generously rewarded during his tenure at Hebei China Fortune, taking home £12m from the Chinese Super League side.

Pellegrini was keen to return to Europe and the offer of a generous salary from West Ham means he should not feel the pinch too much after agreeing to succeed David Moyes.

Following the appointment, West Ham joint-chairman David Sullivan said: “We have listened to fans who asked us to be ambitious. We hope they agree it is an exciting appointment."
