London Stadium stewards were called into action in the first half of Monday night’s London derby to restrain a West Ham fan after Chelsea took the lead.

The Hammers fan broke onto the pitch and approached the Chelsea players who were celebrating Eden Hazard’s goal that put Antonio Conte’s Premier League leaders ahead.

As the supporter was escorted from the pitch by two stewards, Chelsea defender David Luiz was seen to rush across to the touchline to seemingly act as peacemaker.

West Ham introduced new stewarding measures back in January following a spate of fan related violence in the arena after the club asked fans for feedback of their experiences at the London Stadium, which the Hammers moved into last summer.

Seven people were arrested following the EFL Cup meeting between the sides back in October.

Riot police were forced to intervene as missiles, including a seat, thrown between rival supporters.
