West Ham vs Leeds - LIVE!

Manuel Lanzini and Jarrod Bowen fired West Ham into the fourth-round of the FA Cup.

David Moyes picked a strong team for the visit of Premier League rivals Leeds United and was largely vindicated. Indeed, while Daniel James might have hit a late equalizer for the away team had he been able to sort his feet out, Leeds rarely caused many problems.

For West Ham, it wasn’t exactly a brilliant performance but the manner in which they controlled the game will have pleased Moyes. A deep squad they may not boast but this group of players are capable of creating their momentum, fighting for each other across all fronts.

All in all, a positive day for West Ham and another example of the London Stadium feeling more and more like home.

See how all of the action unfolded with LIVE updates from Jack Rosser!

CHANCE FOR LEEDS

More injury problems for Leeds

15:32 , Jonathan Gorrie

68:00 - Firpo goes off with what he seems to be suggesting is blurred vision after a blow to the head in the first-half.

Jack Rosser from the London Stadium

15:26 , Jonathan Gorrie

West Ham have created the openings to put this game to bed so far but they’re still just a goal ahead and there’s half an hour to play with the Leeds attacking looking more threatening for the presence of Raphinha and Dallas. Two poor crosses from Johnson and Fredericks have wasted good opportunities in the last few minutes.

Hour mark

15:25 , Jonathan Gorrie

61:00 - Now we’re past the mark, it seems like West Ham will be happy to sit back.

Leeds aren’t causing them many problems, so it’s a case of managing the result from here.

15:19 , Jonathan Gorrie

Great work from Vlasic

15:18 , Jonathan Gorrie

55:00 - He’s really starting to look like a West Ham player of late.

The Croatian has turned and cut inside the Leeds defence all afternoon.

Jack Rosser from the London Stadium

15:15 , Jonathan Gorrie

After two goals in three games since his positive test for Covid, Antonio is looking back to his best. The striker is bouncing Leeds defenders off of him for fun and causing trouble when he gets the chance to run at the visitors.

51:00 - Antonio rolls Llorente and play in Bowen, who sees his shot saved.

Raphinha on

15:12 , Jonathan Gorrie

Worth noting that Leeds have turned to the Brazilian.

A different test for young Ben Johnson.

Jack Rosser’s half-time verdict

14:53 , Jonathan Gorrie

It’s been a bit scrappy for the most part but West Ham deserve their lead at the break. The Hammers need a tighter grip in midfield after the interval, though. Rice and Soucek haven’t had their usual control and it’s causing problems for those behind them.

CHANCE FOR WEST HAM

14:50 , Jonathan Gorrie

49:00 - Meslier does well to stop Fredericks tapping in after a Bowen cross.

Great skill from Lanzini

14:47 , Jonathan Gorrie

44:00 - The man is on fire.

Surrounded by white shirts, he shrugs off all who oppose him with a lovely shift of balance and drop of the shoulders.

Antonio back on

14:44 , Jonathan Gorrie

Luckily for West Ham, Antonio looks ok to continue.

A worry for West Ham

14:42 , Jonathan Gorrie

Tottenham down

In even better news for West Ham, Spurs have just conceded at home to Morecambe.

Jack Rosser from the London Stadium

14:38 , Jonathan Gorrie

West Ham’s opener survives a very long VAR check with a lot of confusion around what was being looked at. The chance was created after the first real opportunity Antonio has had to run down the flank at Leeds at get West Ham forward, with Vlasic showing good strength to roll Hjelde.

Shrewsbury lead Liverpool at Anfield!

What a story that would be.

Jack Rosser from the London Stadium

14:29 , Jonathan Gorrie

West Ham haven’t been able to maintain any momentum after those early chances. Lanzini and Vlasic have shown some nice touches but can’t really get it to click at the moment. If those two can get going then West Ham can take control of this.

VAR update

14:25 , Jonathan Gorrie

Not given. Would have been very harsh.

PENALTY CLAIM

14:25 , Jonathan Gorrie

23:00 - Dawson fuming after his header, in his mind, hits Hjelde on the arm. VAR checking.

West Ham attack looking isolated

14:24 , Jonathan Gorrie

22:00 - All a bit too slow and in front of the Leeds defence.

Antonio is having to drop deep to get the ball, depriving the Hammers of any kind of focal point and the ball is just getting recycled around the midfield.

West Ham passing nicely

14:20 , Jonathan Gorrie

18:00 - Good possession for West Ham of late as they attempt to build.

Nothing too dangerous from a Leeds perspective but the first real time the home side have had the ball for an extended period of time.

Meslier read it well!

Jack Rosser from the London Stadium

All the noise has been coming from Leeds fans so far but that Bowen chance has sparked the home support into life. A fantastic cross from Rice on the left when it looked like the moment to make something happen had gone.

09:00 - Bowen has one cleared off the line from Ayling after a Rice cross.

Leeds escape.

Slow start

14:09 , Jonathan Gorrie

03:00 - Huge cheer from the crowd when Rice drives through the lines.

After a slow start for the home side, the England international is looking to speed things up.

Leeds starting well

14:03 , Jonathan Gorrie

01:00 - Leeds have dominated the early proceedings.

Despite their injuries and poor form, they’re not likely to change their approach.

David Moyes on Vlasic

13:14 , Jonathan Gorrie

David Moyes is hopeful Nikola Vlasic can step up in place of Said Benrahma after a steady start to his West Ham career.

Vlasic, signed from CSKA Moscow in the summer in a deal that could reach more than £30million, scored his first goal for the club in the 4-1 win at Watford over Christmas.

Before that moment, scoring the fourth from the bench, Vlasic had rarely threatened to open his West Ham account and snatched at chances in the hope of making an impact.

You can read his full quotes here.

Strong team!

13:09 , Jonathan Gorrie

Fair to say that David Moyes is taking this competition VERY seriously.

A really strong team today, it should make for an interesting cup tie.

Your Evening Standard prediction

12:28 , Jonathan Gorrie

Moyes’ side have been one of the best teams in England over the past two years and, even with changes in mind, should have too much for Leeds.

West Ham to win 2-1.

Early West Ham team news

12:17 , Jonathan Gorrie

Jamal Baptiste, Aji Alese, Manny Longelo and Harrison Ashby could all be in contention for a stat should Moyes look to rotate with the cabal of youngsters having impressed in the Europa League late last year.

Leeds, meanwhile, don’t exactly the healthiest squad from which to choose, although Bielsa will reveal more information in his pre-match press conference.
