West Lothian M8 motorists face delays as 'police blue light' to multi-car incident

A shocked Edinburgh passenger has reported seeing five police cars racing through traffic to respond to a multi-vehicle incident.

The eye witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, said five vehicles were also visible in the hard shoulder as the passed the M8 scene.

The incident is understood to have taken place at around 5.50pm on Tuesday November 19 between Blackburn and Whitburn on the M8 eastbound junction 4.

"We witnessed multiple police and recovery vehicle racing to it," the witness claimed. "We also saw five cars on the east bound hard shoulder.

"Traffic was at a stand still both directions whilst emergency services dealt with the incident. Police blue lighted up the middle of the motorway."

In an update to motorists, Traffic Scotland posted on X to say the road was closed by emergency services.

They shared: "The M8 heading eastbound at J4 is CLOSED due to a road traffic incident. Drivers are advised to expect delays."

The road was later reopened and is understood to currently be 'restricted.'
