An 'evil' West Lothian prisoner jailed for a string of historic sexual offences has died behind bars aged 66.

Alex Daly died at HMP Addiewell on June 1, the Scottish Prison Service has confirmed, after being sentenced to 22 years imprisonment in September 2023 at Grimsby Crown Court.

The 66-year-old, from Scotter, Lincolnshire, was found guilty of four counts of rape, seven counts of indecent assault and two counts of indecency with a child over an eight-year period during the 1990s and early 2000s.

As is the case following the death of any prisoner in Scotland, a Fatal Accident Inquiry will take place in due course and the matter has been reported to both police and the Procurator Fiscal.

As Grimbsy Live reported at the time of Daly's sentencing, the offences against him were reported to Humberside Police in 2020.

“I want to praise the victim for their bravery in coming forward and helping to put this evil man behind bars.
