West Midlands service station that's gone from 'filthy rat hole' to UK's best

A West Midlands service station has gone full circle a year after being labelled a "filthy rat hole". Hopwood Park service station was considered the lowest of the low but has undergone a spectacular shift.

Situated just south of Birmingham on the M42, Hopwood Park has made headlines before, but for all the wrong reasons last year it was in the spotlight after being slammed in reviews for its uncleanliness. However, according to a new study by Moneybarn Car Finance, which assessed various factors such as parking availability, on-site facilities, and customer feedback, Hopwood Park now tops the charts. The analysis considered the number of parking spaces, diversity of restaurants and shops, as well as the availability of EV chargers, fuel prices, and Tripadvisor ratings to compile the top 10 list.

Boasting 460 parking spots and an average electric vehicle charging cost of £0.52 per kWh, Hopwood Park also offers competitive fuel prices with petrol at 140.2p and diesel at 148.26p per litre on average. Additionally, visitors have a choice of two shops and 13 dining options, including popular chains like Burger King, Chopstix Noodle Bar, and KFC.

Located between junctions 30 and 31, this Yorkshire-based service station is open round-the-clock, offering free shower facilities and a pet-friendly outdoor space for travellers, reports the Express.
