West Midlands Wetherspoons pub evacuated after being struck by lightning
A pub in the West Midlands was evacuated after being struck by lightning. The Avion, which is operated by Wetherspoons in Aldridge, was struck during the thunderstorms over the region last night (September 21).
Customers were evacuated from the pub and the emergency services attended the scene. West Midlands Fire Service said it was called to the scene at 7.10pm and sent around 15 firefighters.
Two fire engines were pictured outside the premises alongside a police officer. A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service that the lightning struck had set off the pubs alarms before firefighters checked over the site with a thermal imaging camera.

Aldridge Police wrote on X/Twitter: "Aldridge went off with a bang this evening when lightening struck the Avion. Emergency services were called and pleased to confirm all customers evacuated, safe and well."
It comes as thunderstorms rolled over the region last night after the Met Office issued a yellow weather for large parts of the country. There was also heavy rain, with flooding on the region's roads. Two further yellow warnings remain in place over the region today and tomorrow for rain.
