Western Wildfire Hot Spots Appear on Satellite Imagery

Dozens of wildfires burning across the northwestern United States appeared in satellite imagery on Wednesday, July 17.

Footage captured by the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) shows fire hot spots and smoke plumes spreading across the region on Wednesday.

Weather officials had issued red flag warnings for parts of Washington, and Oregon on Wednesday, advising that dry and windy conditions could exacerbate fire conditions.

The 12 “large” wildfires burning in Oregon had scorched about 327,732 acres by July 18, according to officials. Credit: CSU/CIRA & NOAA via Storyful
