Westfield Shopping Centre Evacuated As Bomb Squad Investigate Unexploded WWII Bomb

Westfield Shopping Centre in Shepherds Bush has been evacuated after an unexploded World War Two bomb was discovered by builders.

Police have cordoned off roads around the area while a bomb squad investigates the shell, while local train stations have been closed as a result.

Central Line Tube trains are not stopping at Wood Lane while Wood Lane is closed to traffic between Shepherd’s Bush Green and the A40.

The Circle Line is also closed between Hammersmith and Edgware Road.

White City Tube station has reopened after it as briefly closed.

A spokeswoman for Scotland Yard said: “Police are dealing with an unexploded shell in White City.

“At 10.40am police were informed of the discovery of the large unexploded shell at a building site at Ariel Way, White City, W12.

“The Westfield Shopping Centre and a non-residential building at the location have been evacuated as a safety precaution.

“There is also serous disruption to roads in the area and local train stations are also affected.”

Nearby workers have been tweeting pictures of the evacuation, with some told to take the rest of the day off work.
