Weston-super-Mare Carnival 2024: Parking, route and road closures

Crowds of thousands are expected to pack the streets of Weston-super-Mare as carnival rolls back into town. The event - a highlight in the resort’s calendar - is making a return in 2024 on Friday (November 8).

The parade of illuminated carts and walkers will start as usual from the Locking Road car park and turn right into Alfred Street .It will travel all the way down Alfred Street and left onto The Boulevard before heading into Waterloo Street and past the Italian Gardens.

The procession will then go onto South Parade and follow the road round to Knightstone Road to turn left along Royal Parade on the seafront, continuing along Marine Parade where the procession will end just past the Pirate Golf.

Here’s everything you need to know if you’re coming to the carnival.

When is it and what time does it start?

The parade starts at 7pm on Friday November 8 from Locking Road car park and the end point is on the sea front by the Pirate Golf. The last cart through will be at about 9.30pm.

Entries include illuminated floats, marching bands, fancy dress walkers and entertainers parading through the town. People are being urged to give generously by dropping cash into the collection buckets or making a donation online.

What route does the carnival take?

The route for the carnival parade will start as usual in Locking Road car park and proceed alongside Tesco heading towards the bus hub, turning right down Alfred Street. All the way down Alfred Street and left onto the Boulevard heading down into Waterloo Street past the Italian Gardens/Town Square (where the carnival village will be) onto South Parade past The Royal Hotel and following the road around to Knightstone Road past the Royal Grosvenor and Lauriston Hotels to turn left along Royal Parade (the sea front) continuing along the Marine Parade where the procession will end just past the Pirate golf opposite the Grand Atlantic Hotel.

These town centre roads will be closed at 5:30pm – except for Francis Fox Road, which will close from 3:30pm.

They need to be vehicle-free for the carnival to take place.

Where can I park?

There are a number of car parks in Weston suitable for carnival parking. Some however will be impacted by the road closures in place during the procession.

  • If you are using any of the below town centre car parks or are parking on streets inside the road closures, you will not be able to exit until the procession has finished. The only exceptions are those marked * where vehicles will be able to exit with marshal assistance.

The carnival organisers will be operating a car park on the Beach Lawns from noon. Charges are £10 all day.

Please note, there are very limited disabled parking spaces available to view the procession.

This car park is closed to the public from Thursday 7 November and re-opens on Saturday 9 November.

Can I get to the carnival by train?

Visitors can park at Worle or Milton stations and have a short hop down to Weston Station.

Is there disabled parking?

All car parks have disabled spaces, the closest car park to the parade is Grove Park. There will be a designated area on the Beach Lawns parking closest to the end of the parade for blue badge holders. All on a first come first served basis.
