So far, Westworld has been set entirely within the parks – either out in the action with the hosts or in admin facilities with the humans.

However, it now looks like we may finally be moving into the world beyond in the upcoming second season. After all, we know nothing about what goes on outside of the park.

"This year is much more of a road show – Sweetwater isn't home anymore," co-creator Jonathan Nolan told Entertainment Weekly.

"These hosts don't live on the same time frame we do and don't have the four-year life span of replicants [like in Blade Runner]. If left to their own devices, they could live forever. So our story has some real scope to it."

Of course, the HBO show recently confirmed there are five other parks – one that could feature is Shogun World – so we are expecting more action beyond just the one location.

The showrunner added: "If we were to describe the show as one camera angle, it would be a steady pull out revealing more and more context. So as the hosts learn more about their world – and other worlds, and the real world – the audience is doing the same thing."

Westworld will return on HBO in the US on April 22 and on Sky Atlantic/Now TV in the UK.
