Westworld season 2 brings back Young William, but why?

We've learned to expect the unexpected in Westworld, but it still comes as a surprise that this character is set to return.

Unless you were backing this well-versed fan theory, of course.

Yes, Jimmi Simpson – aka Young William, aka The Man in Black – is returning to the hit sci-fi series' second season, and there's good reason for it.

Chatting to IGN at San Diego Comic-Con, Jimmi said that there are still some unanswered questions surrounding the mysterious Man in Black.

"I think... the show is obviously the park, but the element of the Man in Black is a small running line," he said.

"There a few more questions that they're gonna answer for us as far as exactly how that transition occurred and what it felt like to him and other people."

But if you don't want any clue as to what Westworld has in store for Young William, then you might want to stay off Reddit.

Series co-creator Lisa Joy has recently urged fans of the show to stay away from online communities as much as possible, because everyone is just too damn clever, basically.

"Even though we're creating it as we go along, we feel like we owe it to the fans to be bold and also to play this game with them where we're like, 'Do you want to figure it out? Do you want to play with us here?'

"Hopefully now, because of the first season, the people who want to have this purist interpretation of the series, they'll just develop their own theories in a vacuum -

"And maybe don't log on to Reddit," she added.

Westworld will return to HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK next year.
