Westworld season 2 episode 5: That Teddy twist explained

Some people believe Teddy is actually Bernard, some (okay, me) think he's just Westworld's most boring character.

Whatever the case, his storyline got a major update in season 2 episode 5, when Dolores betrayed him. The pair got on famously all episode, sealing it with sex toward the end, but Dolores was secretly unsettled by his suggestion that they forget about taking vengeance on humanity and just live out their potentially infinite lives on some quiet ranch somewhere.

A callback to an earlier anecdote, she said, "There's a swarm descending, just like the blue tongue when I was a girl, and if we're going to survive some of us will have to burn," before having a couple of soldiers grab him from behind.

It looked like it might be curtains for Teddy but, instead, Dolores got one of the Delos technicians to edit his settings, putting aggression up to 100 and compassion down to near zero.

This should solve the problem of Teddy's dreariness, as he will now become a stone cold killing machine.

With this alteration in his stats, we could see Teddy gunned down in this timeline before the season's out. Hyper-aggressive, he will probably now no longer be a lover to Dolores but simply a weapon, likely one the recklessly leads the charge into battle.

Westworld continues Sunday nights on HBO in the US and through Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.
