Jackson, who is best known for his recurring role in Sleepy Hollow, will play Nicholas, a charming, resourceful man who finds himself in uncharted territory while Parenthood and American Gods star Tucker will play a character called Major Craddock, described as a commanding military officer.

They're the latest additions to an already stellar, jam-packed cast, which already includes the likes of Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood and James Marsden.

Fans hoping to see a return of Sir Anthony Hopkins in his role as Dr Robert Ford – despite his death at the end of the first season – can take heart from some comments director Jonathan Nolan made recently too.

"I think the sacrifice he makes at the end of the first season is very real," he said.

"I think there will be an opportunity to explore a little bit more of the backstory of how this park came to be, a little more of that story.

"We'll see the character's presence will be felt in that sense in terms of filling in a few more of the gaps about the early history of this place."

Westworld will return to HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK next year.
