Pub chain Wetherspoons has announced it will cease selling one of its most beloved drinks. San Miguel will be withdrawn from all venues by the end of November.

But staff have already raised concerns that the change will not go down with customers. Wetherspoon is to replace San Miguel with cheaper product, Poretti, an Italian lager with a rich heritage dating back to 1877.

This new addition will cost under £4 a pint in most pubs and will be priced at just £3.20 as part of the cheaper "Monday club" deal.

One regular customer expressed their disappointment upon learning that their usual pint of San Miguel would no longer be available. They shared that the bar staff also anticipated similar reactions from other patrons once the change is implemented.

The customer said: "I always have San Miguel so told them I wasn't happy. The barman said he wasn't surprised."

He added that the barman mentioned San Miguel was one of their best-selling drinks and he 'doesn't fancy' having to handle the inevitable complaints.

San Miguel, a Filipino pale lager, is the flagship beer of the San Miguel Brewery, which was established in San Miguel, Manila in 1890 under a Spanish Royal Charter. It is among the most popular beers in Britain.

Poretti, a distinctive Italian lager brewed by the historical Birrificio Angelo Poretti, has been a staple since its foundation in 1877 by its namesake Angelo Poretti. Described on the Tesco website, the beer is hailed for its "a full flavoured Italian lager beer, characterised by a pillowy white head, brilliant clarity, and refreshing taste".
