JD Wetherspoon has announced plans to close 61 pubs by the end of the year - including six in Yorkshire.

The venues - which have all been listed below - have either already been sold and closed down, are currently under offer, or will close by the end of the year. This latest round of closures follows the chain shutting down 41 pubs in 2023.

The affected pubs in Yorkshire are:

  • The Gate House, Doncaster

  • The Sir Norman Rae, Shipley

  • The White Hart, Todmorden

  • The Percy Shaw - Halifax (under offer)

  • The Silkstone Inn, Barnsley (already closed)

  • Running Horse, Airside Doncaster Airport (already closed)

The latest announcement comes as the pub giant reports a sales surge, reports the Express. The company says sales increased by 5.8 per cent in the 10 weeks up to July 7, with year-to-date figures showing a 7.7 per cent increase in like-for-like sales.

JD Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin said: "The gradual recovery in sales and profits, following the pandemic, has continued in the current financial year.

"Total sales are, again, at record levels, with fewer pubs. Sales per pub are approximately 21 percent higher than pre-pandemic levels, which has helped to compensate for the very substantial increase in costs.

"For example, compared to the 2019 financial year, labour in this financial year has increased by approximately £164 million, energy by £28 million, repairs (also affected by labour costs) by £38 million and interest (excluding IFRS 16 interest) by £16 million"
