'We've waited long enough!' Corrie star Faye Brookes gets engaged after three months of dating

Faye Brookes "can't believe" she is getting married.

The 35-year-old actress is perhaps best known for her role as Kate Connor on 'Coronation Street' but met her partner Iwan Lewis when he played her love interest in a touring production of 'Legally Blonde the Musical' in 2011 and after he recently popped the question, has shared how he rightly predicted on the first day of rehearsals that they would get together at some point.

She told OK! Magazine: "It’s making my heart pound now because I still can’t believe we’re getting married. It’s still sinking in for me. He took my breath away and I did get emotional.

"I never thought I would get my happy ending and I think we’ve waited this long to get our happy ending and it turned out to be the guy who was there the whole time. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, I can say that from the bottom of my heart. It’s a gut thing too. I’m not questioning anything. On day one of rehearsals of 'Legally Blonde', we’d known each other for a few years by now, he came up to me and went, ‘By the end of this tour we’re going to be together.’ I was like, ‘Mate, no we’re not!"

The former 'Dancing On Ice' contestant - who outside of TV acting has carved out a successful career in musical theatre with leading roles in 'Shrek' and 'Chicago' - was in a relationship with 'Pop Idol' star Gareth Gates from 2012 until 2018 but had only been with Iwan for three months when he popped the question on New Year's Eve last year and insisted that they have waited "long enough" to commit to each other.

She added: "We have waited long enough! I could have said this phrase in the past, ‘When you know, you know.’ But I’ve never truly understood what that really means until now. There’s no doubt, no worries, no cold feet."
