Whale Watches Whale-Watching Boat Along California Coast

A catamaran full of whale watchers found themselves to be at the center of a minke whale’s fascination during a tour off the coast of Dana Point, California, on September 30.

Drone footage taken during a whale-watching cruise organized by Capt Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Watching Safari shows the whale circling the boat, as excited tourists snap close-up photos of the animal

Speaking to Storyful, the company said that a “whale mugging” occurs when the animal takes a special interest in the boat and swims around the vessel.

“During these close encounters, Capt. Dave’s boats stay in neutral so the whale can hear the engines and know where they are,” they said. Credit: Capt. Dave’s Whale Watching via Storyful
