What to watch on TV this week: 6 must-see shows, from 'Sherwood' to 'Who Do You Think You Are?'

A must-see new detective drama begins this week with Sherwood on BBC One, featuring a huge star cast that includes David Morrissey, Lesley Manville, Joanne Froggatt and Robert Glenister.

Family history buffs will have plenty to delve into this week, with the return of ITV's Long Lost Family and Matt Lucas' episode of Who Do You Think You Are? airing on BBC One.

Sherwood - BBC One, 9pm - Monday

Detective drama Sherwood is so much more than a whodunnit - inspired by the real-life manhunt in Sherwood Forest for two unconnected killers, it's also set against the backdrop of community tensions post-miners' strike.

The long and prestigious cast list includes David Morrissey, Lesley Manville, Joanne Froggatt, Robert Glenister, Alun Armstrong, Stephen Tompkinson and Adeel Akhtar.

Long Lost Family - ITV, 9pm - Monday

Their recent foundling special, Born Without Trace, included some jaw-dropping family discovery moments, and now presenters Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell are back with their popular main series.

Again, they're on the hunt for much-wondered-about family members gone missing or never met - expect many a teary moment as long-lost relatives get to know each other after a lifetime of searching.

Who Do You Think You Are? - BBC One, 9pm - Thursday

More family tree revelations are to come on Thursday, although this time they're celeb-based and involve the distant past.

Comedian and Bake Off host Matt Lucas delves into his ancestry this time, making a surprising and emotional connection with Anne Frank's story when he travels to Amsterdam.

The Lazarus Project - Sky, 9pm - Thursday

Sky's already airing a time travelling series with the new adaptation of The Time Traveler's Wife, and now here comes another take on the theme starring I May Destroy You's Paapa Essiedu.

He plays George, an app developer who realises he's living the same six months over again, which naturally no one believes...except for a mysterious organisation called the Lazarus Project.

They can turn back time when the planet is facing extinction and are fascinated to discover that George can do it himself.

Brian Cox: Seven Days on Mars - BBC Two, 9pm - Friday

Professor Brian Cox is back with another out-of-this-world programme, quite literally, as he explores whether life ever existed on Mars.

As a child in 1980, he wrote to NASA asking for photos of a Mars exploration mission which set him on his current career path, and now he's living out his dream by visiting the labs in person to see the work they are carrying out across the solar system.

Glastonbury: 50 Years and Counting - BBC Two, 9pm - Sunday

Glastonbury returns this summer for the first time since 2019, marking 50 years of the festival.

This warm-up documentary hears from organisers Michael Eavis and his daughter Emily how it has evolved over the years and the incredible amount of work that goes into it running smoothly, whatever the weather.

Viewers will also hear from star acts about their experiences at Glastonbury, including Noel Gallagher, Chris Martin, Fatboy Slim, Florence Welch, Thom Yorke and Stormzy.
