What we learned from the Stranger Things season 2 Super Bowl trailer

Finally, we got a glimpse at something for season two of Stranger Things.

Hitting us during the Super Bowl (which I’m told is a pretty big deal), we got the faintest of glimpses about what could be in store for the follow-up season of the hit show that took Netflix users (and the world, it must be said) by storm last summer.

During this year’s Super Bowl we were given the following teaser.

Right, so while we see very little in the above trailer, it’s certainly enough to get fans excited. So it’s set in 1984 and the guys dress up as Ghostbusters. Awesome.

There’s plenty of sinister imagery here, but most significantly Will appears to re-enter the Upside Down dimension, as we suspected he would. But in what capacity? Will he be able to teleport in and out when he chooses? Is he becoming one of the very monsters that abducted him in the first place?

Some of the cast also shared photos hinting at the themes of the show. Millie Bobby Brown shared this playful upside down photo…

And Caleb McLaughin shared a similar snap, telling us we’re in for a heckuva time in the Upside Down universe, it seems…

After hours of relentless study and research, I’ve concluded that Stranger Things season two will be all about the Upside Down; the other dimension, which frankly sounds even more terrifying than its debut season.

Remember at the beginning when Will was kidnapped by the Demogorgon? Or when Nancy was trying to escape the Upside Down? And who can forget when the Demogorgon rampaged in the season finale prompting Eleven to sacrifice herself? They were all, I’m sure you’d agree, pretty chilling moments.

So just imagine how scary the next season is going to be.

It’s pretty cool we got a glimpse of- and confirmation it would seem – that Eleven is going to play a part. As if they’d just write her out! As interference cleverly disrupts an Eggos advert, her name is bellowed and while we do see her face, we’ve no idea when or where she is.

We don’t know the significance of Millie Bobby Brown’s role and impact yet, and that’s the intriguing conundrum. Could we see her emerge in the first episode? Will the entire season focus on the boys finding her? Or will she be present in an existential way a la Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars?

Personally, I’d love to see Eleven back in the fray as soon as possible. Despite the character saying relatively little, she’s clearly the standout in the show. It’s hard to imagine a whole season happening without her present, mainly due to her being so pinnacle throughout season one. Her powers will surely have a big part to play here with her being the only one who’s able to fight back against the Demogorgon.

That said, David Harbour (Hopper) could play a much bigger role if, as is suggested at the end of season one’s finale, he’s now in league or even working for the government in regards to their inter dimensional experiments. Likewise, more Winona Ryder would be a plus, as well as the chance to see Nancy and even Steve (even though no one really likes him, do they) return in more significant roles alongside the main kids, Caleb, Mike, Dustin, and Lucas.

What’s it gonna be about? Where is Eleven? What’s about to happen to Will? Can Winona Ryder gain her composure after becoming an internet meme?

SO. MANY. QUESTIONS.
