Desert X AlUla has been praised as a game changer. The outdoor exhibition ‒ held biannually in the wind-winnowed desert canyons around AlUla ‒ collates an array of sculptural works, inspired by and presented in these unique desert landscapes. Its curators boast of “works that [examine] the dichotomy between the natural and man-made worlds” but what does that mean to ordinary visitors? The Evening Standard sent a team out on a week-long trip to AlUla to witness the advances being made there ‒ and we got to visit Desert X AlUla and see its temporary cultural monuments for ourselves. It’s fair to say they make an impact.
