What's on TV this week: The top 6 shows from 'The Games' to 'Eurovision'

Our pick of the week's best TV includes a TV contest comeback with The Games, annual TV highlight the Eurovision Song Contest, and shows celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee get underway.

Viewers can also look out for Stacey Dooley returning for a second season of genealogy show DNA Family Secrets, and another adaptation of Sally Rooney's work in Conversations with Friends.

What to watch on TV this week, 9 - 15 May, 2022

The Games - ITV - Monday - Friday, 9pm

Celebrity sports contest The Games was last seen on TV in 2006 on Channel 4, but this ITV reboot sees Holly Willoughby host a cast of 12 famous competitors in a range of Olympic disciplines.

Running, swimming, diving, cycling and even a bit of speed climbing are on the menu as the week of live shows sees the celebrity cast compete to make it to the top of the medals table.

Expect to see Christine McGuinness, Kevin Clifton, Chelcee Grimes and Ryan Thomas amongst the 12 contestants, with guest sporting stars giving them pointers including Tyson Fury and Daley Thompson.

DNA Family Secrets - BBC Two - Wednesday, 9pm

It seems there's no end to viewers' appetite for genealogy shows, from BBC's Who Do You Think You Are? to ITV's DNA Journey and Long Lost Family.

None of that has crowded out a second series of this Stacey Dooley-fronted family history show, where guests are searching for long-lost relatives, information about genetic diseases and even just information about where their parents were from.

This opening episode features a fascinating story about a woman investigating family rumours that her dad fathered a baby as a Second World War prisoner of war.

The Jubilee Pudding: 70 Years in the Baking - BBC One - Thursday, 8pm

As programming for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee begins, the BBC kicks off with the results of the nation-wide pudding contest.

Baking queen Mary Berry hosts the show about the competition to come up with a new pudding recipe to commemorate the Jubilee.

Unlike with shows such as The Great British Menu, there will be no celebrity chefs competing here - entries were welcomed from anyone with a love for baking.

Eurovision Song Contest - BBC One - Saturday, 8pm

Outlandish acts, catchy tunes and political voting are celebrated for another year at the Eurovision Song Contest's grand final, taking place in Turin this time.

Graham Norton hosts the UK coverage with AJ Odudu reading out our voting results and Sam Ryder aiming to ease us past the nil points mark.

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration - ITV - Sunday, 8pm

First up in the broadcasters' scheduled events to celebrate the Queen is ITV's programme airing from the grounds of Windsor Castle.

It features Helen Mirren, Tom Cruise, Damian Lewis and Omid Djalili amongst other big names in a dramatic representation of royal history.

There'll also be a horse display and music from Keala Settle, Gregory Porter and Katherine Jenkins.

Conversations with Friends - BBC Three - Sunday, 10pm

Normal People writer Sally Rooney sees another of her best-selling novels adapted for TV in this drama series starting on Sunday.

Two university student best friends form an unlikely close friendship with a married couple, but when one of the young women begins an affair with the husband, it challenges her best friend's view of her, as well as her own.
